3-in-1 On the Edge Of Release

Update 07 Sep 2017: 3-in-1 has been released!

Original article published 28 Aug 2017:

Last week, we were prepping a 3-in-1 update for Xbox One launch. We passed the last hurdles with Microsoft, and were running through the final launch sequence checks, when this happened:

It is colourful, but it is not fun. We have not yet identified the cause, but somewhere on the way between our development kits and retail Xbox’s, our textures are going haywire.

This is, in many ways, very disappointing. For us, but more importantly, for all of you. You’ve waited far too long, and we’ve tripped at the final hurdle before update release.

In other ways, it is a good situation. We know …

Update 07 Sep 2017: 3-in-1 has been released!

Update 28 Aug 2017: 3-in-1 is on the edge of release, and is facing a final issue

Original article published 21 Aug 2017:

Alright, you have waited long enough! A triple-update is coming to Xbox One very soon™: Silent Running, Voice of the Deep, and Ghost: All in one go.

The Ghost Update was just released on Steam. We are prepping Ghost + 2 as we speak. Unlike with Silent Running and Voice of the Deep, we are fully locked and loaded to release Ghost + 2 almost immediately on Xbox One.

Ghost + 2 has one last hurdle to cross: A Microsoft review called “Certification”. This is a test by the …

Talking about Performance

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Performance, frame rate, FPS – When a game does not run fast enough, it’s hard to have fun. Subnautica doesn’t run fast enough right now, on either Steam or Xbox One. We’d like to update you on three things we are doing to improve performance on both platforms.

Calling for Backup

We’ve hired new programmers to work on Subnautica. Adding more people to a project is tricky, and can sometimes even slow down development. Right now, we are confident that more programmers specifically targeting performance will help us improve frame rates.

Look out for David – He’s chewing on frames and sending messages in our chat with headlines like “Just pushed a big chunk of optimization work to

Of Xbox One Updates, and Things in Threes

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

They say good things come to those who wait. I don’t know who they are, but they have clearly never had to wait this long for a Subnautica Xbox One update. We know it, you know it: It’s taking too long, and we are way overdue to push an update.

They also say that good things come in threes. That, we can agree with. It now looks like Xbox One will receive a three-in-one update. Subnautica on Steam is building up to an update right now: We may merge that work into Xbox One.

Silent Running, Voice of the Deep, and “the third update” would roll into your Xbox’s all at once. As usual, we can’t guarantee anything, or pick …

Progress on Resuming Xbox One Updates

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Update 24 Jul 2017: It looks like Xbox One will receive a “3 in 1” update, though we can’t commit to a date.

Subnautica on Xbox One has not been updated in an unacceptably long time. We’re painfully aware of this fact, and working hard to resume updates as soon as possible.

Previously, we discussed the reason for the delays, and made reference to “The Bug”. This bug was a major hurdle stopping us from updating Subnautica on Xbox One.

We can now say, with great relief that The Bug is dead. We have Subnautica’s latest updates, Silent Running and Voice of the Deep, running on our Xbox One development machines.

It will still be some time …

Xbox One Update Delays

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Update 24 Jul 2017: It looks like Xbox One will receive a “3 in 1” update, though we can’t commit to a date.

Update 09 Jul 2017: We have crushed The Bug and are making good progress towards resuming updates.

Original post 21 Jun 2017:

Subnautica on Xbox One is now two updates behind the Steam version. It is missing both Silent Running and Voice of the Deep. We are tremendously sorry for this delay, and it is not our intention to leave Xbox players with old version of the game.

Why is Subnautica on Xbox behind Steam?

We want Subnautica on Xbox to receive updates at the same moment that Steam does. Unfortunately, releasing an update on …

Xbox One Silent Running Release Date

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

The Subnautica Silent Running update was released on Steam a few weeks ago. Silent Running still has not been released on Xbox One. Why not? When will it be released? Read on to find out…

Why hasn’t Silent Running been released yet?

Subnautica is a Big Game™. The sheer volume of textures, models, animations, code, and other assets is very, very large. So large, in fact, that we have started to run up against some limits ingrained in Unity. Unity is a ‘game engine’ that we use to help create Subnautica.

To get around those limits, we have been modifying Unity.  The modifications are working on our Windows and Mac versions, but have caused serious problems, including crashes, for the …

Subnautica Xbox Save/Load Problem Resolved

Posted by acedude 7 years ago
Subnautica

Good news, Xbox One divers! We have just released an update that solves the save and load issue that has been plaguing saved games on Xbox One. If you have experienced an error message saying “Save data loading failed”, then this update is the one you have been waiting for.

If you have been unable to load a saved game on Xbox One, this update should allow you to load that game. Our testing suggests that the bug did not cause loss of underlying saved game data.

While we are very confident we have resolved the save / load problem, there remains a small chance we missed something. If you still experience save / load issues after updating Subnautica on …

Closing in on Xbox Save/Load Issues

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Update 12 Apr 2017: An update has been released that resolves the issue.

Original post 06 Apr 2017:

We have got good news regarding Xbox save/load issues. These issues have been causing many of you to receive errors when attempting to load saved games on Xbox One. We think we have identified the problem, have worked out how to resolve it, and are in the process of a preparing an update for release.

Even better: Existing saves that are suffering from this error appear to be recoverable. The underlying problem was not, thankfully, corruption of the saved game data. This means that if you have a game that currently will not load, it is very likely that you …

Technical Xbox update released, no new content

Update 12 Apr 2017: An update has been released that resolves the issue.

Update 06 Apr 2017: We have identified the issue and worked out how to resolve it. An update is being prepared for release.

Original post 29 Mar 2017:

Hi everyone! We just released a tiny update for Subnautica on Xbox One. This update contains no new content, bug fixes, or improvements of any kind. Its sole purpose is to introduce new tools to help us find and fix the save/load bugs many of you have been experiencing. For example, if you do encounter a save/load issue, you will probably now receive a much more informative error message.

We wish we could have released …
