Posted by acedude 5 years ago
Subnautica Xbox Update

Subnautica on Xbox One has just received an update. 0.29 should end the scourge of missing resources, and slightly improve performance.

  • Fixed an issue causing fish and resources to sometimes not load into the world
  • Prewarming of managed heap to reduce expansion stalls.
  • Increase of object pool counts
  • Optimize animations to cull when not visible.
  • Optimize bubbles and fix multi-pop issue
  • Optimize rigid-bodies
  • Optimize mesh streaming order

We know that you’re experiencing some pretty severe bugs at the moment. 0.29 fixes quite a few issues, but there is more work to be done. We’re still cranking on further updates.

Unfortunately, resources will not re-spawn in areas you have already visited in a saved game. To get a full resource spawn, …

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

The Cuddlefish Update has been released on Xbox One! The adorable, squidgy, playful Cuddlefish is waiting to be your dive-buddy.

Cuddlefish on Xbox One includes extra work on performance, stability, and general polish. We hope you will notice a slightly improved frame rate on Xbox, though we still have great deal of work to do.

On save/load bugs: Cuddlefish does not fix the save/load issues that many of you are experiencing. We are very sorry about this. We have included extra error reporting, to help us ascertain the cause of the errors and fix them.

We will solve these save/load bugs. We have solved other ones in the past. We wish we were making faster progress, and are very …

Cuddlefish Coming to Xbox One, Save / Load Progress

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Update 20 Oct 2017: The Save/Load issue mentioned below has been fixed

Original article published 22 Sep 2017:

The Cuddlefish Update is life on Steam. We’ve made solid progress on preparing it for Xbox One. We don’t know exactly when it will be released. The ‘build’ (a version of the game) is, we think, ready to go. Over the coming week it will go through testing by both ourselves and Microsoft.

If those tested pass, we will release Cuddlefish on Xbox ASAP. We cannot give an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), as any ETA we give will inevitably be wrong, and we don’t want to cause disappointment by missing an arbitrary date. The best we can say is, we …

Update 07 Sep 2017: 3-in-1 has been released!

Original article published 28 Aug 2017:

Last week, we were prepping a 3-in-1 update for Xbox One launch. We passed the last hurdles with Microsoft, and were running through the final launch sequence checks, when this happened:

It is colourful, but it is not fun. We have not yet identified the cause, but somewhere on the way between our development kits and retail Xbox’s, our textures are going haywire.

This is, in many ways, very disappointing. For us, but more importantly, for all of you. You’ve waited far too long, and we’ve tripped at the final hurdle before update release.

In other ways, it is a good situation. We know …

Original article published 21 Aug 2017:

Alright, you have waited long enough! A triple-update is coming to Xbox One very soon™: Silent Running, Voice of the Deep, and Ghost: All in one go.

The Ghost Update was just released on Steam. We are prepping Ghost + 2 as we speak. Unlike with Silent Running and Voice of the Deep, we are fully locked and loaded to release Ghost + 2 almost immediately on Xbox One.

Ghost + 2 has one last hurdle to cross: A Microsoft review called “Certification”. This is a test by the …

Talking about Performance

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

Performance, frame rate, FPS – When a game does not run fast enough, it’s hard to have fun. Subnautica doesn’t run fast enough right now, on either Steam or Xbox One. We’d like to update you on three things we are doing to improve performance on both platforms.

Calling for Backup

We’ve hired new programmers to work on Subnautica. Adding more people to a project is tricky, and can sometimes even slow down development. Right now, we are confident that more programmers specifically targeting performance will help us improve frame rates.

Look out for David – He’s chewing on frames and sending messages in our chat with headlines like “Just pushed a big chunk of optimization work to

Of Xbox One Updates, and Things in Threes

Posted by acedude 7 years ago

They say good things come to those who wait. I don’t know who they are, but they have clearly never had to wait this long for a Subnautica Xbox One update. We know it, you know it: It’s taking too long, and we are way overdue to push an update.

They also say that good things come in threes. That, we can agree with. It now looks like Xbox One will receive a three-in-one update. Subnautica on Steam is building up to an update right now: We may merge that work into Xbox One.

Silent Running, Voice of the Deep, and “the third update” would roll into your Xbox’s all at once. As usual, we can’t guarantee anything, or pick …
