START OF AN ALL-NEW STORY & INTRO

This update marks the beginning of our new storyline. It's still a work-in-progress, so there is a lot more to look forward to. Get a behind the scenes peak at how we approach story here.

After extended time without human interference, Glacial Basin and Glacial Bay are returning to their natural state. Brightly-colored flora flourishes in the shadows of the towering crevasses. Below these icy formations, a network of extensive caves hides.

QUANTUM LOCKER

Upgrade your storage for access anywhere using a Quantum Locker (patent pending). This Precursor-tech container allows a user to access its contents from any Quantum Locker in the world. Of course, quantum mechanics is still relatively mysterious, even we’re not quite sure how it works.

SURFACE BEACONS

Not great with directions? No problem. Upgrade your Survival Kit to include Beacons, now compatible with terrestrial environments. Use beacons to navigate back to a particular location anywhere in the world.

SNOWBALLS

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. That’s why, official as of today, Alterra is sanctioning the use of snowballs to escape an aggressive Snow Stalker or in combination with Purification Tablets to create drinkable water. Use outside of these instances is not condoned.

WATER PURIFICATION TABLETS

When stranded on an alien planet covered in water (frozen or otherwise), one can never have too many ways to create drinking water. That’s why the scientists at Alterra decided to invent something truly clever: A tablet that combines with snowballs to create drinking water.

Similar to Glacial Basin, many areas of 4546B are thriving thanks to an absence of invasive species. Budding botanists and hobbyist xenobiologists alike will enjoy the metamorphosis the planet is undergoing, especially in the Lilypad Connection and Thermal Vents regions.

UI Improvements

Items that degrade over time, such as anything using power, now display a bar reflecting their status. As the item wears down, the status indicator lowers. We’ve also upgraded the text to provide a clearer, crispier experience.

Running low on a precious resource? Keep an eye out for Ore Veins while adventuring out of the water. These resource- rich caches provide an abundance of various types of ore on the surface.

ESCALATING WEATHER

Weather now transitions gradually. If the weather worsens, that might be a cue to seek shelter. Likewise, if it’s easing, it could indicate a safe forecast.

It’s not really the arctic without hypothermia. There is now a meter on the heads-up-display to indicate temperature exposure while on land. To warm up, visit a Thermal Lily, drink some coffee, or head into an enclosed space.
