Dropship Update (263) Released

Posted by 10 years ago

Natural Selection 2 Build 263 has been released, and we’re calling it Dropship. This update adds a feature that Natural Selection 2 has deserved for a long time: Organised play. It also fixes a host of annoying issues, adds World Championship emblems, and includes lots of new small features that make play more enjoyable for all.

The update is the culmination of a collaboration between community volunteers, the World Championship organisers, and us here at Unknown Worlds. It is a big one!

Pile in, lads!

Pile in, lads!

Since the dawn of time, the only way to join a game in Natural Selection 2 was via the server browser. Outside the game, there were some options: Steam friends, or ENSL.org’s ‘gather system.’ That was fine – But it was not what a tight, tactical team based shooter cried out for. What if starting a 6v6 game was as easy as punching a few buttons?

The Organised Play system

The Organised Play system

Taking inspiration from community efforts, we have added the Organised Play system. Inspired primarily by ENSL.org’s ‘gathers’ – The system draws on a dedicated server pool provided by Unknown Worlds. All major regions, including North America, Europe, South East Asia and Oceania have servers available.

Dropship also adds NS2World Championship Emblems. Each finalist team has a Steam Store page dedicated to their emblems: Titus Gaming, Saunamen, Legendary Snails, and Godar. You can support your chosen team, or all of them with the Championship Pack. 50% of all proceeds after Steam’s cut go to the Championship teams as part of the prize pool.

Choose your team.

Choose your team.

Further, every kill you make while wearing a Championship Emblem is tracked – Come finals night, we will all find out which team had the most support out there on the battlefield. Will it be the North American upstarts? The towel-clad Finns? The ferocious French or the veteran Europeans?

All these Championship Emblems will be available only until a short time after the Grand Final ends on February 22. Get them now, and show your support for one of these exceptional teams.
