Pressuring Resource Towers (also known as Pressuring RT’s or Hitting RT’s) is a common strategy used in Natural Selection. This strategy focuses on depriving the opposing team of resources, effectively halting their race up the tech tree and buying your team time. This strategy can be used at anytime during the game by anyone; no matter the team, lifeform or equipment. This strategy can be especially dangerous to the alien team early to mid game because of the way their resource system works.

Employment

You can employ this strategy at anytime and in anyway you choose. You can go off alone or in a group into the enemy territory and start hitting their RT’s. If you can catch them off guard (usually during critical moments of the game) you can easily devastate the opposing team in less than 5 minutes. This tactic very often makes or breaks games in Natural Selection, so it is encouraged to be used by both teams.

This strategy works very well, however it can have the opposite effect if over used. Generally there shouldn’t be more than a couple of people pressuring RT’s at any given time. Having more than a fraction of the team causes your team to become too dispersed and disorganized, which alerts the opposing team to the threat (which can be easily countered). That’s why it is good practice to ask your team before you begin using this tactic.

Effects

The positive effects of this strategy to your team are:

• It slows down the speed at which the enemy team can go up the tech tree or replace lifeforms.
  • It gives your team some time to catch up or continue up the tech tree.
  • It reduces the opposing team’s ability to negligate your teching by teching themselves.
• It draws the opposing team’s attention away from the front lines.
  • Makes them use their time ineffectively by traveling across the map rather than fighting.
  • Makes the enemy team paranoid, forcing them to divert resources, time or man power to protect these resource towers.
